PUBLIC ENEMY 23 - Burned By The Night 1985

This rare mini 12'' by Public Enemy 23 from Hamburg was released on Gabba Gabba Hey Records and the band consisted of Franky and Esther (vocals), Gale (guitars), Jenne (bass) and Fingers (drums) and I first came in touch with the band through a song on the blessed Slam-Brigade Haifischbar compilation via Weird System (1991). They rocked the clubs of the Reeperbahn in the 80s with their refreshing Punk'n'Roll in which they celebrated numerous Gassenhauer plus own goodies and which coat they gave them can you recognize by these six songs. I would say: Lost Little Nugget!

- Great Thx to Nolti -

THE REST - s/t LP 1986

Berlin had and has a very active underground scene and this rare piece is an excellent example of this. The Rest were Frieder (vocals), Ringo (bass), Dietmar (guitars) and Klaus (drums) and they released their only album via Destiny Records and contains seventeen fast killers, among them a cover of the Avengers 'We Are The One', 'Your Eyes' and 'Every Sperm' from Monty Python. They also guested on two great compilations of Destiny: Mutti's Muntere Melodei ('84) and What Doesn't Hurt Us Makes Us Stronger ('85). Frieder (known as frontman of Porno Patrol) sings in German and English and that expresses their aggressive lyrics more clearly I think, hallo VKJI guess in the same year the band broke up, Klaus later drummed at Die SeucheLet's punk my dear followers!

SLIME - Musa, Göttingen 04.10.2012

In 2012 entered Slime from Hamburg the stage again and in the baggage their new record which appeared almost twenty years after the Schweineherbst album. Of course I was curious and had to see them live (last was 1990 in the Fabrik). Although I did not like the new album very much, I was hot for the gig, especially as I wanted to hear the old classics. So we go to the Zoom and experienced a refreshing evening with lots of fun, beer and a band in an euphoric playing mood, as if they had never been away. Grandios! Now here are quite good recordings from their show in Göttingen, enjoy!

DER DURSTIGE MANN - Saufen Ohne Ende 12'' 1984

So, some re-upps are done and the weekneds here so I come with along with a delicious 12'' by Der Durstige Mann, everybody knows, everybody loves, stand for strong minimalistic punk rock with a touch of wave sound. Surely you know some of their albums, for example the Bier 4 Tot or Hellblaun albums, and I must say they get more musically from record to record, also here too, all six songs have a melody, a nice rhythm and singing lessons were apparently also took, haha... Honestly, you can say what you want, this band from Frankfurt is so damn unique and I always love listen to them. This 12'' is megarare and I am very pleased to present this stuff on wdthtc. Enough words, mandatory download and the journey into a galactic weekend is opened.

Pretty awesome tape from Mothra Productions with thirty five bands from around the world with huge tophits. Excellent selection I can only say!, a brilliant Hardcore Punk onslaught pulled by rare 7Inches and other secret sources with nice little info-sheet makes this an excellent stew with hot spices and bite-sized chunks, add a slice of rye bread and beer and it's done... but beware! breaks through well, so don't forget toilet paper.

NEUES DEUTSCHLAND - s/t LP 1981

Also rather unknown band that consisted of three members: Peter (vocals), Sabine (drums) and George (guitars & bass) and as Rewix they released 1980 a 7Inch which is extremely rare these days and a year later they made their only album as Neues Deutschland on Iron Curtain Records/Herkules Records with sixteen solid four chord songs. Reminds me a bit of the sound of the Hamburg ZickZack label, simple and sometimes a bit experimental but by no means boring, could also go through as NDWLyrically they move in personal & sociocritical wording so that all in all a good punk record was made.

DIE GOLDENEN ZITRONEN - Porsche, Genscher, Hallo HSV 1987

After two nice 7Inches the Bremer Weser Label released the debut of Die Goldenen Zitronen (The Golden Lemons), punx from Hamburg that are known for their entertaining and politically relevant style. Their original name was Die Deutschen Nazikartoffeln (the German Nazi-potatoes). When the band formed in 1984 at the beginning of the “Fun-Punk”-movement, punk was their main style and over the years the band added more experimental musical forms combined with different styles. Their lyrics are political and take a critical view of society from a left to left-radical perspective and they are also especially known for its chaotic live performances.

The founding members were Schorsch Kamerun (vocals), Ale Sexfeind (drums), Ted Gaier (bass & guitar), and Aldo Moro (guitar & bass). Initially they combined hard rock with 1970s-era punk and lyrics that were both angry, yet comedic and pop-like. The band rejected the traditional music industry, seeing themselves as a symbol of artistic independence not wanting to "serve the structures of rock" (Ted Gaier.) Of the founding members, only Schorsch Kamerun and Ted Gaier remain. The new members are Thomas Wenzel (Die Sterne) under the pseudonym Julius Block, keyboarder and drummer Mense Reents (Egoexpress, Stella), and Enno Paluca. Their song, "Für Immer Punk," is a cult hit in the German punk scene, inspiring comparisons with bands such as Abwärts, Die Toten Hosen and Die ÄrzteSixteen varied highlights and a debut that is much more than fun punk.

V/A - Killed By Sunshine 2019

Part VI of my small serie 'Rare German Underground', this time with stuff from the Eighties, taken again from rare Demos, Singles & Albums and first of all, my sincere thanks! to Reinhard which gave me this cute part brimming with rare German underground 1981-1989 for my little series available and thus you and me a little joy. The title came to mind when I was busy with a Killed By Death compilation and had already finished the cover, but now I find its a little stupid, I had other ideas but since I don't write anything down I've forgotten, no matter, the artwork pleases and you can see my first Iro at the tender age of, well ... I believe a year. As always your opinion interests me and I am grateful for many comments. The next part will come and until then I wish you a pleasant listening hereby.

RODGAU MONOTONES - Volle Lotte! 1984

Einen hab ich noch and we meet local heroes Rodgau Monotones, a rock combo founded in 1977 and they are especially popular in the Rhein Main area around Frankfurt/Main and in the German federal state of Hessia because of their biggest success Die Hesse Komme from 1984, which is sort of an unoffcial hymn for the region. This is their third album on Rockport with eleven solid rock songs. Bandinfo: In November 1977, five musicians from Rodgau met for the first time in the rehearsal room and founded the Rodgau Monotones. They wanted to make music which is not German or jazz rock, but rather party rock. In the early years they limited themselves to offering pieces by ZZ Top, Johnny Winter and Queen with German lyrics. In 1978, Hendrik "Henni" Nachtsheim joined the band with his saxophone, later known as a member of the comedy duo BadesalzThe first appearance of the band took place on Carnival 1978 @ the Roxy in Offenbach am Main - as a break filler of "Hartz Reinhard Revival", also played in the Mob and Osti. This was followed by a series of performances in smaller venues, where already up to 2000 people came to the concerts when the band was still unknown in Frankfurt. In 1980 followed the first appearance in the Batschkapp in Frankfurt-Eschersheim, which was terminated after only one hour due to lack of repertoire. In 1982 they took their first album Wollt Ihr Musik, Oder Was? on and went regional tour. With the single release Ei Gude as from the 2nd slab Fluchtpunkt Dudenhofen they made their first radio appearances. The chart sequence of the album Volle Lotte! (16th place) and the single Die Hesse komme! (#22) helped the Rodgau Monotones to the final breakthrough. In 1985, they put on the longplayer We see ourselves in court (# 23) and the singles Hello, I am Hermann (75th place) after. In the same year they played in the band for Africa together with other rock greats on the Cologne cathedral plate the German contribution Nackt in the wind to the "Live Aid Concert". The participation in the festival in the stadium @ Bieberer Berg 1983 in Offenbach with Santana, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez followed in 1984 "Pampa Power" in the stadium of the FSV Frankfurt on Bornheimer Hang with Flatsch!, Die Crackers, Feinbein, Hob Goblin, Roger Chapman ", the anti-WAAhnsinns festival and on October 19, 1985, following an appearance at Kuli in one, will also win one more in the ARD Rockpalast. As part of the Deep Purple Open Air 85 on June 29, 1985 on the Mannheim Maimarktgelände and on July 6, 1985 @ the Zeppelinfeld in Nuremberg they were honored to open both festivals (with Roger Chapman, Mountain, Meat Loaf & Deep Purple). The cartoonist Chlodwig Poth produced in 1985 with his daughter Leonore Poth a 30-minute music film with animated elements called "Rodgau Melodies - Die Rodgau Monotones and their songs" for the Hessischer Rundfunk. The rudimentary plot of the film - now available on DVD - played at a Rodgau kiosk. On 27 July 1986 they had a joint appearance with Herbert Grönemeyer and the band Die Toten Hosen in the demonstration against the planned nuclear reprocessing plant Wackersdorf. In 1987 saxophonist Achim Farr joined the band for his "Sportsmen" tour. In 1990, Henni Nachtsheim left the band and concentrated together with Gerd Knebel von Flatsch! based on the early eighties comedy duo bath salts. For a year and a half the band paused, then they found the right replacement for the vocals with Kerstin Pfau. In the middle of 2001 there was another break when Achim Farr left the band at his own request. With this departure also the horn section with Joachim Kunze (trumpet) and Thomas Wimbauer (trombone) was dissolved. The new saxophonist was Matthias "Mattl" Dörsam.

In March 2003, the Rodgau Monotones celebrated their 25th stage anniversary ("Silver Wedding") in two sold-out concerts in the Stadthalle Offenbach together with their old companions Flatsch!, Hob Goblin, the Crackers and 8000 fans. The "Monotones" celebrated their thirtieth anniversary on August 30, 2008 together with numerous guests such as Anne Haigis and Wolfgang Niedecken and companions such as Hendrik Nachtsheim, Gerd Knebel and Jürgen Zöller in the Hanauer Amphitheater. The three-hour concert was broadcast on 28.September 2008 together with the two-hour unplugged concert of the "Monotones" in May 2008 and the film Rodgau Melodies by hr-Fernsehen as "The Long Rodgau Monotones Night". On April 2, 2009, Rodgau Monotones received the Citizen Medal in gold from the city of Rodgau. In March 2018, the band celebrated their 40th anniversary at the Stadthalle Offenbach. In the more than three-hour show they met again with old companions.

KOSMONAUTENTRAUM - Juri Gagarin 1982

I'm not really a big fan of ZickZack records but the debut of Kosmonautentraum is not bad at all. The band was a music project founded 1980 by the singer Ziggy XY (Michael Jarick) and drummer EKT (then both at Der Moderne Man) in Hannover with a strong closeness to the genial dilletants from Berlin (Die Tödliche Doris, Einstürzende Neubauten, etc.). Kosmonautentraum published mostly on cassettes and zigzag records with changing accompanying musicians until the mid-1980s. Ziggy XY also published a volume of poetry titled The German and published together with E. K. T. the Fanzine Today, which contained mostly collages and fictitious concert reviews and record reviews. So enjoy this last post 2018 and I wish you all a great New Year's Eve!!

A+P - s/t LP 1981

Last post before X-Mas and it's a another German classic: A+P come from Starnberg near Munich and was founded 1979 by three brothers, where bassist and guitarist are twin brothers. Characteristic are above all the snappy-critical lyrics and the unmistakable voice of the singer. What was planned as a surprise gag on the 40th birthday of the singer developed into a real reunion as part of the Punk-in-Munich project. Philip, the singer, was able to convince his two younger, then fourteen-year-old brothers and his friend Felix that they should make punk music. First, all four band members wanted to play guitar and so had to be gagged for the cast. Florian won, so Felix, who was actually the best guitarist, was on the drums. The first record was recorded with Felix, then came Jürgen Tonkel to the band, who was playing at the same time in inner German relations. Jürgen left A+P in 1984, Felix came back and the band played until 1985 in the original line-up.

The band was controversial in the then Munich scene, which was partly because they had as 'Starnberger' the reputation of Rich Kids. On the other hand, the first record was released on a major label (Jupiter Records/Ralph Siegel). So there were few appearances in Munich itself from A + P, but they played a lot in Starnberg and the surrounding area, but especially in Switzerland, where the Links Rechts EP appeared on Soilant in 1982. Jürgen worked with the band Inner German Relations (IDB) on the TV series BLAM and came in this way to acting, which he operates successfully today.

Due to the excitement of the song 'Dachau' appeared the 2nd edition of the album without this song. But anyone who dealt with the entire text of the song 'Dachau' recognized the very clear anti-fascist statement. 'Dachau' became a cult song. Even in the former GDR A+P achieved a considerable degree of awareness, tapes with the songs were copied countless times and further processed.

In 2004 A+P with Jürgen Tonkel on drums after twenty years went live again and publicly in Munich on the stage. The old A+P songs and especially the very personal but also very political lyrics have lost none of their original meaning and explosiveness. What should be a unique gig was repeated due to the incredible response in 2006 and 2007.

110 - s/t LP 1982

Now a real rarity by this early 80ies PunkRock combo from Hildesheim, Lower Saxony with their only album on Rillenschlange. 110 were Otto (vocals & guitars), Ulli (guitars) Ralle and Henning (bass), Markus (synth/piano/guitars), René (vocals & drums) and 110 is the emergency number in Germany (this only by the way). I can't remember how I came to this slab and unfortunately the band didn't reach the level of popularity at that time like other well-known German legends. Probably too intellectual and not so aggressive but lyrically they make very clear which side they stand on and criticize such topics as "be cool", "police actions", "press" or the sense of getting up early every fucking day, packed in catchy first-class melodic driving rhythm mid-tempo sound, really a fantastic record, even if you don't understand a word. On compilations only represented on the Wer Kriegt Das Noch Hin? cassetteIt doesn't have always to be anarchy and beer, right!

UPRIGHT CITIZENS - Open Eyes, Open Ears, Brains To Think & A Mouth To Speak!!! 1985

One of my favorite records is the following slab by the Upright Citizens and was recorded and mixed during the month of Feb. & Sep. '84 and Feb., April & May 1985 in Zero Green Studio, Essen. Resulted is this record in co-production with 'Better Youth Organization'. Also released by the band itself, limited edition in clear blue, the rest in black vinyl (my copy). Most of the tracks were already released on previous records, however almost all are either new recorded or at least remixed. Engineer was Walter Fux, with which we have mixed together. Cover artwork for the idea and we stand responsible. And also all texts and the total music comes from us except for "Holocaust" (CRISIS). Upright Citizens was one of the first German punk bands with English lyrics. In 1982 appeared the first record, the Bombs Of Peace 12", of the band from the Ruhr. In 1985 they toured as the first German punk rock band for six weeks across the United States. The eighties and early nineties were the most successful in the twenty-two years of band history. In addition to publishing various recordings the band earned reputation as a terrific live act, for example they were opener for such punk giants as Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, UK SUBS and many others.

The first line-up consisted of Anton (vox+guitar), Uli (guitar), Cracker (bass) and Mario (drums). In 1989 the line-up and the musical line changed - with Alex (drums) and Chris (guitar), today members of the mopedgang or at Eisenpimmel, new influences came into the band. The songs changed, away from the fast political hardcore punk towards a sound and become more metal and I would not tell this punk anymore. The stage show of Upright Citizens were often compared with the Social Distortion, well I don't give a shit about those who wrote that.

In spring 2003, Upright Citizens gave their last concert on board a chartered excursion steamer on the Rhine. I can say, Upright Citizens are one of the best German punk bands whose records (early) are all absolute classics. Very rough and with brilliant lyrics, the gents stand out clearly from all of the incompetents and Pseudo punk bands in this country which not even understand the meaning behind it. Must have!!!

CO-AL 159 - s/t LP 1982

Never heard this band before and I'm always happy to come in touch with new stuff, especially when it comes from Germany. This band has been named after a car registration, presumably their license plate and I find this very originell. This nice idea is also reflected in their music because it comes up with a simple scrape sound which I call NDW punk or whatever, the guitars reminds me of the Düsseldorfer KFC and you know how great they were. In 1982 the members from Coburg published their only album on Rockport Records with twelve songs. Remarkable their cover versions of "Lemon Tree" and "Blue Suede Shoes". Everyone should listen to these wacky songs, really. CO-AL 159 were Carsten (drums), Clement (bass), Jörg and Kurt (guitars) and Marion and Alex (voices), and here ends my info. Well, what remains is another cool platte which shines with the two part-singing and simply minimalistic sound effects: Cult!

VORKRIEGSPHASE - Auf In Den Tod 1983

An incredible fast & hard carnage are the only slab by this four piece from Kaufbeuren with fifteen bloodbaths, released via Rock-O-Rama. Founded by Mad (vocals), Frank (guitars), Georg (bass) and Kurti (drums) sometime in the early 80's. Presumably they sent their demo to H.E. and he produced their plate in the usual ROR sound. Partly a bit exhausting, not comparable to today's stuff, but still good and intense. In the same year appeared the 'Scheiss Krieg' EP with three pieces and a demo from 1984 was the last life sign by the band. The original record is traded extremely high and in 2006 a bootleg found the way to light with all recordings. Now enjoy this rush of fast attacks, complete with the rare insert, Prost!

ZELTINGER BAND - De Plaat (Live) 1979

Tonight I'll introduce you to veterans from Cologne who've been playing their music since 1979, the Zeltinger Band, founded by Jürgen (vocals), Ralf & Peter (guitars), Norbert (bass), Jaki (drums) and Arno (guitar/vocals) and the first album De Plaat (Ariola) was recorded live at the Roxy & Bunker and Müngersdorfer Stadion was released as single and became their first hitTwelve rockin' songs with some witty lyrics provide pleasant entertainment and I must confess, I was skeptical when buying but I can guarantee you this album kicks decently, just the perfect sound after a long hard day at work and should you have the opportunity to get the LP, buy!

here
