FIENDENS MUSIK - Häftiga Hästen & Andra Äventyr 1980

Second and final album on Bellatrix by this band from Malmö and damn, they've defused their music a bit and the songs have a more poppy, almost boring sound or something like that, Swedish folk?? Compare these recordings with their first LP and you know what I'm talking about. Why do I post them anyway? Quite simply, why not. For one thing, Fiendens Musik is a good band, on the other hand there are certainly some of you who like this, doesn't always have to be hard, loud & fast, and the cover is great - Anyway, last one today but I promise tomorrow it will be nasty, enjoy the weekend!

KITCHEN & THE PLASTIC SPOONS - Best Off 2007

Kitchen & The Plastic Spoons formed at a basement rehearsal studio in Stockholm, Sweden during the spring of 1980. The band consisted of Anne Taivan (vocals), Helena Lönnqvist (synthesizer), Iggo Karlsson (synthesizer), Jackie Pazda (bass), and Mats Wigerdal (drums). After a few concerts, Kitchen booked some free studio time and recorded their first single “Serve You!” in two days. Six months later Patrik Lindvall (guitar) joined the group and the band recorded their second single “Ice Cream To God” in early 1981. Kitchen’s sound was getting darker and heavier and so was the mood in the band. Anne shortly left and was replaced by Iodine Jupiter on vocals. This new line up recorded a few songs for local compilations. The band broke up in November 1981 before recording their debut album.

“Screams To God” collects Kitchen & The Plastic Spoons two EPs, two compilation tracks as well as three demos from 1980 never before released on vinyl. Kitchen were part of the new DIY generation starting bands, making self- produced singles and rapidly breaking up. Their sound echoes the speedy chaotic energy with the synthesizer as its driving pulse. Anne’s vocals are barely understandable but they have a sense of urgency. They didn’t’ sound like any other band in Sweden at the time, having more in common with American bands, Devo, The Screamers and Pere Ubu.

All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in a full color spot gloss jacket with a photo of Anne with bright magenta hair. Each LP includes an insert with liner notes, song  descriptions and photos. Although the group burned out after a year, this compilation shows their energy and attitude to be just as liberating and unusual today. (source: darkentriesrecords)

The band reformed in 2008 and played the Drop Dead Festival, October 8-12 2008 in Lisbon, Portugal. They plan to perform occasionally at Synth and Goth-oriented venues and festivals.

V/A - Cultural Compost Pit! 1985

Pretty awesome tape from Mothra Productions with thirty five bands from around the world with huge tophits. Excellent selection I can only say!, a brilliant Hardcore Punk onslaught pulled by rare 7Inches and other secret sources with nice little info-sheet makes this an excellent stew with hot spices and bite-sized chunks, add a slice of rye bread and beer and it's done... but beware! breaks through well, so don't forget toilet paper.

MASSMEDIA - Sista Ackordet 1980

The first band from Sundsvall that recorded an EP. The members had been in England and bought themselves an eight channel mixer and used that to record their EP's. On the first recording the battery of the fuzzbox went empty and because no stores where open the guitar sounds a little non-distorted. They released their EP's on the Massproduktion label, a label they created themselves. Being the most ambitious local punk band at the time they developed fast and even before the release of the first EP they recorded the classical single Das Jazz/Jag Vill Inget, live in their rehearsalroom with Jan Zachrisson from Diestinct, who knew slightly more about recordings. It is still one of the most furious singles from that period with the VU-meters glued to the red area. In February 1979 they released their first album on their own label Massproduktion. It had a print run of 800 numbered copies and is now regarded as a collector's item. In 1980 the Nilsson brothers went to Linköping to study, and that was the end of the band. The Nilsson brothers later started Huvudtvätt. So this album is an awesome KBD smasher and one of the top releases of this genre.

KESSY - Stilla Natt 7'' 1981

Next one is not really a punk single but it's rare and reason enough to post it. Kessy is a classic rock band, so I will describe their sound, from Stockholm and this is probably their debut record. Infos to the band itself I can't say a lot and google gives nothin' so only that Kent Kessy plays all instruments and vocals and he recorded both songs at 19 & 20 November 1981 in the OAL Studio, released of course via Kessy Records. He's a true selfmade man. Both songs rock quite fine and I would one of them, namely the title track, put on a KBD compilation. Interesting record, decide for yourself and leave your opinion in the comment section.

V/A - Varning!! För Punk 1994

VON GAM - 1 Gen Punk 2018

There is a lot to do in my business now and I need a solid balance in the evening and this little compilation from Ken-Rock records is exact the right stuff, eleven rare songs by Von Gam from Hovmantorp, Fripps (vocals + bass), Plast (guitars + vocals), Tjup (drums) and in detail: their 7'' from 1979 on Klippan, three cuts recorded 28. January 1980 at Radio Kronoberg/Växjö, two live goodies recorded on 8. April 1983 @ Lady Jane/Lessebo and four from the "Ung & Söt" cassette recorded 14-15 marrch 1981 @ Studio Allton/Liatorp, comes with an insert with the stories behind the songs, consistently qualitative recordings and a proper record and worth a listen. Represented on some nuggets frolicking here in the blog.

BIZEX-B - Vi Lever! 1982

Bizex-B is a punk band from Gävle that existed between 1980 and 83 and was recreated in 2005. Bizex-B's first gig was made togehter with PF Commando in March 1980 @ Folkets Hus, Gävle. The band was then composed by Zluggo Pop (Larz Gustafsson) on vocals, Mats "London" Colling (bass), Perra (guitar), Jacob "Kådis" Gordin (drums) and guest singer Pelle Olsson. By the end of 1981 the band entered the studio and recorded their first album "Vi Lever!", which was released early in 1982 in a small edition of 300 copies. One year later the second "En Våldtäkt I Vinyl" on Rebel Records and appeared postum after Bizex-B split in spring 1983. In 2005, the band comeback made two quarters of the original release. Zluggo Pop on mic and Perra (guitar). On drums Fritte Jonasson and bass Urrke T. In September 2006, this "new" Bizex-B recorded its third full-length album "Tillbaka Med En Smäll", released 2007. The first two albums were reissued also in 2007 on remastered CD versions by the Imperial Recordings YKFK label. Zluggo jumped off the band in early 2007 and was replaced by Deep Torkel, known from cult bands like Stoodes and Suzie Beats Them All. The band's last album "Halleluja Jesus Är Din Vän" has been recorded with Deep Torkel in 2009 and 2010 and came out 2012 in a small edition of 100 copies. Present on these compilations.

2760 - Numbers 12'' 1980

Here's another rare record from a band I can't say much about. Presumably the reason is that this is not really a punk plate. The five gentlemen, from Stockholm I guess, prefer a rock sound like the Clash or something in this way. Released was this on Adventure Records and as far as I know their only record, they had more two songs on the Let It Out compilation and that's it. If you need something different like me as always '77 punk then is this the right choose. A welcome end to a long hard day.

ROLF & REVOLTÖRERNA - Demo EP 2017

Never before released material from 81/82 by this Missbrukarna member studio project and Skrammel Records released this four hardcore killer attack. Fast, short, rough, no need for more words to describe their sound, not quite the right soundtrack for a cozy breakfast but considering that I'm in two hours at the dentist seems like Rolf is a good choice, cool artwork casually. Enjoy another magic excavations of punk archeology.

DT & THE STOODES - Metallic OK 1981

Great and very rare Swedish kbd punk release from 1981 and this was limited to 500 numbered copies. Founded in Stockholm and the band members were Deep Torkel Knutsson (vocals), Gamen (guitar), Johan "Tapeface" Thulin (bass), Micke "The Leaf" Löv (guitar), 2Meter (guitar), Peter Johanesson (drums), Åke Erikson (drums), Jonte Tom Collins (drums), The Vulture (guitar), Michael Ghomri (guitar). This is their only Album which was released by Nerv-Ös Records. Hard to describe but I think this is a live album mixed with rehearsal recordings, partly the sound quality suffers a little bit but in the end a noisy snotty album. Twelve chaotic songs recorded between 1979-1981 at different places (detailed information inside) with a rousing dose of fun and don't let yourselves be deceived by the album title, it's 100% pure punk rock in a decent Low-Fi sound. Cult!
