Wenja Grammar: Verbs

Here's how verbs work in Wenja:

In many languages, verbs have conjugations that indicate who the subject is. We also have grammatical person which describes the different kinds of subjects as first person (I, we), second person (you, y’all), and third person (he, she, it, they, the dog, horses, traveling salesmen, beer). When we put all the different conjugations of verbs for each person together in a table so we can compare them, we call it a paradigm.

Wenja is a language which marks its verbs in different ways depending on the subject in question. We do this somewhat in English:

1st person singular:
I kill.

1st person plural:

We kill.
2nd person singular:

You kill.
2nd person plural:

Y’all kill.
3rd person singular:
He kills.

3rd person plural:

They kill.

However, in Wenja, there are different markers for each verb AND Wenja sentences don’t use the pronoun like we do in English. Compare the above table with the ones below.

1st person singular:
Gwanam. ‘I kill’

1st person plural:

Gwanmas. ‘We kill’
2nd person singular:

Gwanta. ‘You kill’
2nd person plural:

Gwantan. ‘Y’all kill’
3rd person singular:
Gwana. ‘He kills’

3rd person plural:

Gwanarsh. ‘They kill’

1st person singular:
Sasam. ‘I sleep’

1st person plural:

Sasmas. ‘We sleep’
2nd person singular:

Sasta. ‘You sleep’
2nd person plural:

Sastan. ‘Y’all sleep’
3rd person singular:
Sasa. ‘He sleeps

3rd person plural:

Sasarsh. ‘They sleep’

1st person singular:
Sakwim. ‘I help’

1st person plural:

Sakwimas. ‘We help’
2nd person singular:

Sakwita. ‘You help’
2nd person plural:

Sakwitan. ‘Y’all help’
3rd person singular:
Sakwi. ‘He helps’

3rd person plural:

Sakwirsh. ‘They help’

You’ll notice that there is only one word in Wenja for the corresponding two words in English. The ending on the verb functions the same as a pronoun by indicating who is doing the action, so a separate pronoun is not needed.

In the above tables, you can see that each verb has a root form that has endings added to it. The root forms of the above verbs are: gwana- 'to kill'; sasa- ‘to sleep’; sakwi- ‘to help’. So the ending in the 3rd person singular is not a vowel - it is nothing (which we write as -ø).

The basic verb endings are:

singular
plural
1st person
-m
-mas
2nd person
-ta
-tan
3rd person
-rsh

Sometimes the final vowel in the root is deleted before the verb ending. Don’t worry about why the vowels disappear sometimes. Usually in Wenja, if a vowel can be deleted, it is.

Wenja Grammar: Prepositions

While English places its prepositions before the noun or pronoun it modifies ("in Wenja", "before Roshani"), Wenja places their prepositions after (Winja-ha "in/with Wenja", Rushani parshay "before Roshani"). (While technically postpositions, we'll refer to them as prepositions in our discussions.)

The basic prepositions of Wenja are as follows:
  • -s 'of, concerning, about; possession'
  • -i (after consonant) / -y (after vowel) 'to, for; possession'
  • -su 'in, on, at'
  • -ha 'with, by (agent of passive)'
  • -bi 'from, by, than (comparison)'
  • -m 'towards, against, into, onto, during'

When using personal pronouns as the object of the preposition, use the possessive form. The plural form will make use of the “long” form.

  • mi-yi ‘to, for me; mine’
  • ti-yi ‘to, for you’
  • si-su ‘on him/her/it'
  • arsi-ha ‘with them’
  • ti-bi ‘from you’
  • masi-m ‘towards, into, onto us’

Here are some examples:

  1. Shash miyi. The rock (is) for me / mine.
  2. Shash mibi chawda. The rock hides from me.
  3. Sim gwamam. I’m coming for (lit. towards) him.
  4. Ti-Winja mim gwama! Your Wenja come to me!
  5. Tim gwamam. I’m coming for you.
  6. Taniha hadamas. We’re eating with y’all.
  7. Arsh-mashtarha haymas. We’re going with their mother.
  8. Tiha haymas. We’re going with you.
  9. Ti-mashtarha haymas. We’re going with your mother.
  10. Ti-jarshna mashtarha haymas. We’re going with your old mother.
  11. Ti-mashtaris mashtarha haymas. We’re going with your mom’s mom.
  12. Ti-mashtarbi, shash dafmas. We got a rock from your mother.

Wenja Language: nati

Kwayubi, Winja! Hay shayar Reofive "nati" warshtas pracha. Sa hu-tangay: ku nasa-ha banda? Na sa, ma dwa kam-kamya warshta-ha daha: na ati-kwa.

What's up, Wenja! This morning Reofive asked about the word nati. He wondered: is it connected with nasa "return home"? It's not but it's made with two very common words: na "not" and ati "still, more, longer."

When do you hear nati? Well, if you're like me -- all the time. I personally always dismiss my beast before taking an outpost, to do it as stealthily as possible. When you dismiss your beast you'll hear Takkar say either *grunt* Su. or Nati! The former is something we've talked about before: su means "good" (a grunt's a grunt). The latter means something like "no longer!" or "no more!"

The words na "not" and ati "still" don't have to be combined like that. Take the following sentence: Na wajra-ha ati wanam. "I no longer hunt with clubs." Na, a sentence starter, has to be at the beginning, but ati, going with wana is placed immediately before the verb.

Both words are from good PIE stock. The first, *né 'not' is the source of Sanskrit , Latin ne, and the initial n- in English no & not. Believe it or not (har), it's also indirectly the source of the prefixes un- as in unbelievable (Germanic), in- as in inescapable (Latin), and a- as in asocial (Greek). The second is from PIE *éti 'still', which (while no longer continued as anything in English per se), becomes the word for "and" in Latin (et) and Armenian (ev) and means "still, too, beyond" in Sanskrit (áti).

Wenja Language: shawi shawya-kwa

Smarkaka sakush, su-kwa Easter pas! Shajas dajris warshta dwa alya kamya Winja warshta : shawi shawya-kwa.

Hi friends, and happy belated Easter! Today's words of the day are another two common Wenja words: 'bird' and 'egg'.

You'll see the word for 'bird' a lot in Oros. Think back to the first scene where you meet Urki : Ku shawi warha? U Urkiyi shwada kwati patashta! "Bird speaks? Tell Urki how you fly!" (Note the ku & u sentence starters!)

If you look closely at the word for 'egg', shawya, you'll see that it's basically identical to the word for 'bird'. This, of course, is not a coincidence. An 'egg' is both literally and grammatically 'that which comes from a bird'.

Both of these words have an impeccable Indo-European pedigree. The word for 'bird', *h₂awi-, is the source of words like avi-ation and avi-ary (< Latin avis 'bird'). We also see this root in Sanskrit viḥ 'bird' as well as Greek aietós 'eagle'. English 'egg', from PIE *h₂owyom, is related to words like Latin ovum (think ovu-late, etc.), Greek ōón, and Old Church Slavonic aja. If you're wondering about the initial sh- in Wenja -- PIE *h₂ (likely the Darth Vader sound, a voiceless pharyngeal or uvular fricative) regularly becomes sh in Wenja.

AUD-USD Forex Report 27th March 2016

AUD-USD Primary and Weekly Report

The AUD was always going higher once it moved above the February 50% level, and it's finally moved to where I thought it would originally going some months ago, a retest of the previous Yearly lows .7553 - .7633

The Primary patterns will always drive the trend and this retest of the previous Primary lows can see the AUD make another move downward.

However, when we look at the lesser timeframes we can see patterns that suggest the AUD should continue higher...

1. Consolidation above the 2016 50% level
2. March 50% thrust pattern and breakout of the MARCH highs.
3. Expectation it will now continue to trend up towards the April highs and continue in 2-month wave pattern upwards MAY highs and as high as the July highs (3rd Quarter)

Therefore the only conclusion is, the AUD is going higher.

However, don't be an the wrong side of the April 50% level if the AUD is coming down from retesting the previous yearly lows and back below the April 50% level. That's a game changer.

Wenja Language: prashrawa & shrawa

Smarkaka, Winja sakush! Hay shayar miyi sama mashwar, ha Winjas dabu warham. Gashjas @The_DeadKiller "prashrawa" "jawpur"-kwa warshtas twita. Ubas warhamas, "prashrawa" shaja "jawpur"-kwa shayar.

Hello, Wenja friends! This morning I have some time to say a little about Wenja. Yesterday @The_DeadKiller tweeted about the words "waterfall" and "star". We'll speak about both, "waterfall" today and "star" tomorrow.

The Wenja word prashrawa means 'waterfall'. You never really hear it in game (maybe one time in a side mission), but you'll see it in big letters on the map of Oros: "Prashrawa's Birth" and "Great Prashrawa".

There are other words in Wenja that are related to prashrawa. The word for "river" is shrawman, "river rock" is shrawshash, "river water" is shrawadar, and lastly the word meaning "to flow, glide" is shrawa. You can see the connection of the last word with the others: the root "to flow" is within each of them.

Where does this shrawa come from? From PIE of course! More specifically, from PIE *srew- 'to flow'. This word becomes Greek rheo 'flow', continued by English dia-rrhea 'that which flows through'. The root is directly continued by English stream (= Wenja shraw-man [more or less]), with a -t- inserted in between the s and r because sream is difficult to say. Note that in Sanskrit *sreu- becomes sravati 'flows', and one of the words for waterfall is prasravam, literally meaning 'flowing forward' (a fro-stream, if you will).

Wenja Language: waycha

Su shayar, sakush. Nu Brina mu-kwa Kintukis Yuniversiti-su dacha-dachayam, ha-na sakwan dajrim Winjas mash warhamas. Ma-tan kamya warshta jinafayam: waycha.

Good morning, friends. Brenna and I are currently focused on teaching at the University of Kentucky, and so we won't be able to say much about Wenja in the upcoming days. But I will introduce y'all to a common word: waycha 'village'.

While running around Oros, you'll often hear Takkar talk about the waycha. After he completes a major task, such as escaping Ull & Batari, you'll hear him say: Nu waycham nasam. "Now I return home to the village." We've already talked about the words nu 'now, and' and nasa 'go home', with the normal -m suffix to indicate that this is an "I" form. Takkar also tells random Wenja about his waycha, bidding them to go to the west (nartaram) to join his tribe.

The village is one of my most favorite parts of the game. You of course house all of the major characters there: Tensay, Sayla, Wogah, Karoosh, Jayma, and Urki. There are other quest givers there, too, such as Manoo. But perhaps my favorite thing about the village is all of the random activity that goes on -- just watch the villagers go about their normal lives. They play drums (kutaya), sing (sangwa), wrestle (yawda), have sex (fupawsa), and take care of their children.

And what does waycha go back to in PIE? *weiḱ- / *woiḱo- 'village, home', the source of Latin vīcus 'settlement', Sanskrit viś 'settlement', Gothic weihs 'village, and Greek oîkos 'house'. While English doesn't have a word directly inherited from PIE *weiḱ- / *woiḱo- any more, we still have it hidden in words like vic-inity (originally "in the neighborhood") and economics (< Greek oiko-nomikos "practiced in the management of a household or family").

Wenja Grammar: Sentence Starters

Sentence Starters:

Many sentences in Wenja start with a special word that is either an adverb (like nu ‘now, yes’, tu ‘then, so’) or a conjunction (like nu ‘and’ or ma ‘but’). These words not only help Wenja speakers connect their sentences but also indicate certain grammatical properties (such as ku, when asking questions, and aysh ‘could, should, would’).

  • nu: affirmative “indeed, yes, now”
  • na: negative “no, not”
  • ku: interrogative question marker
  • u: imperative command marker
  • may: negative imperative negative command, “don’t!”
  • tu: then (temporal sequence) “so, then”
  • ma: adversative “but”
  • ba: exclamative! “whoa! hey!”
  • ha: final (in order to) purpose marker; “so that”
  • aysh: subjunctive / optative “could, should, would”
In general, when no endings need to be place at the beginning of the sentence, these special adverbs can be omitted, unless they’re needed for the meaning.

To illustrate the function of these special words, note the following sentences:

Kaydam. I hit (him/her/it).
Nu kaydam. Yes, I hit (him/her/it). / Now, I hit (him/her/it)/
Na kaydam. I didn’t hit (him/her/it).
Aysh kaydam. I should (could, would) hit (him/her/it).
Ba kaydam! Whoa, I hit (him/her/it)!
Tu kaydam... And then I hit (him/her/it)...
Winja marwa. Wenja (are) dead.
Na Winja marwa. Wenja (are) not dead.
Sushalhayn gwanam. I kill the sun-walker.
Nu sushalhayn gwanam. Now I kill the sun-walker.
Aysh sushalhayn gwanam. I should / could / might kill the sun-walker.

In sentences with expressed pronouns, you add the sentence starter to the front of the pronoun:

Ta Udam. You (are) Udam.
Na-ta Udam You (are) not Udam.
Ku-ta Udam? (Are) you Udam?

The following sentence starters are optional and used for emphasis or when the statement is ambiguous (or even when it just sounds better with an extra syllable):

  • u: imperative commands
  • ku: interrogative questions

Troubleshooter

1: If your emoticons box appears below commenting box. Then try this, open your HTML template editor and search for

document.getElementById(domId).insertBefore(replybox, null);

and replace with below one.

document.getElementById(domId).insertBefore(replybox.parentNode, null);

Resize Emoticons

If you require to adjust the size of your emoticons to make it smaller simply add this css code before ]]>.

.emo{ Width:30px; }

Add only width not height value since the emoticons will adjust itself accordingly. Change the width value as per your requirement.
