V/A - Bloodstains Across Austria 2019

All right folks, now a brand new Bloodstains compilation and this time we focus the likeable Austria punk years 1978-1987 and we meet twenty-four divine examples from the beautiful Alps Republic and some of these rare goodies you can find in this blog - Snotty punk, melodic wave and rocking bangers shake hands and illustrate how versatile and colorful the Austrian scene was at that time. That's why I got the idea to pay tribute to them with this nice compilation (otherwise nobody else will do it). That's just a small selection of great bands but I'm very satisfied with the result and the liner notes and I don't wanna say thx at this point, those are hereby most cordially greeted and I hope you enjoy it!

CHUZPE - Anarchy Bla Bla 2011

Chuzpe were the first Austrian punk band. Born in 1977, they were really popular in the Vienna's underground circuit. Their early tracks are a marvellous examples of europunk at the same level of Kids, Ivy Green, Panic etc.. This anthology contains all studio tracks recorded between 1977-80 (the punk years of the band). In the sleeve notes, we read a very amusing relationship with a concert by the Viennese newspaper "Falter": "At eight o'clock the concert begins, the sound is totally zero, the singer incomprehensible, probably because of the borrowed material . A few minutes later the first punks start to "dance". A gang of bikers disrupt the concert screaming "When will you play music?" Raüdig, the singer, says "it is not Deep Purple." another shout "I do not understand a word of what you sing." Raüdig answers "How well you understand the words, you will probably not understand their meaning." the bikers started throwing cups, including the tracks from the Wiener Blutrausch compilation. Absolutely a MUST for every 'old Europe' punk fan. twelve killer tunes!!! Limited to 500 copies, Rave Up Records.

STANDART OIL - Die Liebe Ist Nur Ein Spiel 7'' 1982

This 7inch came out on Panza-Platte and both tracks appeared later on their Mini-LP 'Nagasaki'. The band were founded 1980 in Vienna out from a band called 'Sprays' and they're playin' with different line-ups. They put out this 7inch, a mini album and were on several compilations, WienmusikK or Heimat Bist Du Größer Söhne are probably the punkiest ones. The music from Standart Oil is not really punk, it's more a kind of alternaive/new wave sound and sung in native Vienna dialect. The a-side is a nice reggae tune while the flip's a solide "Schunkel" number with sax and cool lyrics. In 1984 the band split up. I find the Austrian underground always interesting because there were more versatile genres and really genuine '77 punk bands can be counted on two hands, compare that with Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, etc.... In Austria is everything a little melancholic and this is exactly what I love about this country. These two songs are definitely one of them and just describe what I've just described, all right?

- Special Thx to Reinhard -
