Online Buzz About Remako Mod (Pre-Release)

When I first posted about Remako mod on the 3rd of January, I only posted it on the Qhimm forums (the main FF7 modding community) and the GameUpscale subreddit. These are not communities with a large reach, yet word of the mod announcement spread like wildfire. The fun thing was, I had no idea!

After the announcement, I just kept slowly working on the mod and periodically checking in on the Qhimm and GameUpscale threads. Unbeknownst to me, after about a week, the news about my mod got traction. People posted it on other, larger subreddits causing it to be seen by game journalists scouring the internet for stories.

Seeing all these people writing about my mod is just the most awesome feeling. It really helps me push through and finish improving the mod for release, making the trailers, filling this site, etc.

Also important to note, is that it shows the anticipation for the official FF7 Remake. Because it is taking so long, people just want anything that can help bring one of their favorite games into the present.

What is Remako Mod?

The Final Fantasy VII Remako HD Field Mod is a project I’ve been working on for a bit. Major strides have been made in making FF7 look much better. Yet, the field backgrounds have always remained behind. Traditional upscaling such as Waifu2x leaves a lot to be desired and manual remodeling such as Team Avalanche takes a lot of time.

I’ve been looking into machine learning to do the upscaling and landed on a great program called AI Gigapixel. Initial results were very good and after some more tweaking with the generation algorithm, I ended on a good setup for upscaling FF7’s low-res pre-rendered field backgrounds by 400%.

After some in-game testing (boy, can FF7 be a chore to set up for modding) I’m now working on a mod that uses these AI-enhanced upscaled images. Among other things, this means lots of nights of leaving the program on to do its magic. I expect an initial release to be possible within a week or two.

Below is a comparison of the opening scene with vanilla at the top and Remako at the bottom. As you can see it’s a marked improvement and at times it looks like it’s a rerendered image.

How to fix limit google drive

Google Drive is popular platform for saving and sharing file because you can make it as easy, and of course Google Drive give u maximum download speed.
